People’s Choice Communications is hiring a Community Organizing Manager to build our subscriber base and advance our mission to close the digital divide in New York City.

People’s Choice Communications

People’s Choice Communications is a worker-owned Internet Service Provider launched during the pandemic by members of IBEW Local #3 who have been on strike against Spectrum since 2017. Our mission is to close the digital divide by bringing low-cost high-speed broadband to all New Yorkers. Today, we are rapidly expanding our network throughout New York to provide Internet access to communities throughout the five boroughs across New York City, with a focus on affordable housing.

Role

As Community Organizing Manager, you will be responsible for designing and executing an outreach strategy to increase our subscriber base in public housing and to reach building owners for future projects of coverage expansion. This will include organizing canvassing, door knocking, tabling, organizing events, textbanking, phone-banking, and other digital strategies, and ensuring accurate and timely logging of all organizing- and subscription-related data. You will supervise and train a team of network subscribers as part-time “Digital Stewards” to help carry out this work. The Community Organizing Manager must have strong time management skills, be comfortable leading a team, and/or taking tasks head on. Should be skilled in program development, resource support, planning and outreach, have a familiarity with NYC and knowledge of resources within the community. Fluency in Spanish necessary.

This role is based in New York City.

Responsibilities and Requirements

● Demonstrated knowledge and successful experience in the areas of community organizing and coalition building inclusive of bringing together engagers with diverse backgrounds and perspectives around a common cause

● Demonstrated experience in Sales and Customer Relationship Management

● Demonstrated willingness to be flexible and versatile while keeping overarching goals and outcomes in mind

● Management skills in collaborative team environments that include supporting digital stewards and volunteer team members, managing budgets, and monitoring milestones and outcomes

● Ability to anticipate, understand, and respond to the needs of partners to maintain relationships to advance collaborative work

● Strong interpersonal skills, facilitation skills, and the ability to connect with people with diverse and intersecting identities

● Ability to perform multiple tasks effectively in a fast-paced, challenging, and constantly changing environment

● Strong verbal and written communication skills, fluency with digital tools such as Gmail, Google Sheets, Google Calendar, and Zoom.

● Fluency in Spanish

● Knowledge or awareness of Affordable Connectivity Community Partnership Program.

● College degree preferred.

Compensation

This is a one-year contract salaried at $4,500/month + $500/month contribution for healthcare, with possibility for renewal based on performance. Additional incentive pay available for reaching sales goals.
