Job Description:  

Primarily responsible for processing payroll and assisting with benefits administration for all employees; also helping to support the administrative needs of the Canton, MA location.

Employment Status: Full-time, regular, non-exempt position
Hours: 40 hours/week
Starting Salary: $15.50/hour + depending upon experience
Benefits: Health/dental/vision insurance coverage, vacations, holidays, sick days, eligibility for worker ownership
Department: Finance and Administration
Report to: Human Resources Manager

Qualifications:

  • An interest in the mission of Equal Exchange
  • Experience with or interest in working for a cooperative organization preferred
  • Attention to detail
  • Organization and time management skills critical
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Friendly manner; a team player
  • Ability to work independently
  • Computer experience required
  • Experience with payroll processing and ADP WorkForce Now a plus
  • Experience in benefits administration a plus

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Process bi-weekly payroll and maintain employee information in ADP WorkForce Now
  • Create and maintain personnel files
  • Update worksheets that summarize employee census information
  • Process insurance and 401(k) paperwork for new hires, terminations, enrollment periods, or employees with a status change
  • Complete requests from insurance and 401(k) companies for periodic census information
  • Review insurance invoices and approve for payment
  • Maintain required records for Section 125 benefit

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Assist with administrative needs of Canton, MA office, including:
    • Sort and distribute incoming mail
    • Maintain postage meter and supplies
    • Purchase and maintain office supplies
    • Ensure continuous operation of office equipment and telephones

Personnel & Worker Ownership/Fair Trade Development:

  • Participate in staff, team, department, and educational (Exchange Time) meetings.
  • Understand our producer partners, trading policies, and the Fair Trade movement.
  • Understand and participate effectively in our worker cooperative model.
