Equal Exchange – Bookkeeper

Job Description:   This position provides basic bookkeeping and data entry support to the entire Finance team. It is a new position that has become necessary due to the growth of our operation as well as the pending implementation of a new ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) program in the months ahead. The successful candidate should be able to multi-task and show a strong attention to detail.

Employment Status: Full time, regular non-exempt position
Hours: 40 hours per week
Starting Salary: $15.50 per hour

Report to: Finance Manager

Qualifications:

  • Associates degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business – or equivalent experience
  • Attention to detail, pleasant telephone manner, and time management skills are critical
  • Computer literacy/MS office skills required (NAV experience would be a plus)
  • Team player with an ability to learn from others
  • Ability to work independently
  • Interest in the mission of Equal Exchange
  • Experience in a worker-cooperative a plus

Responsibilities:  (approximately 90-100%)

  • Data entry work as assigned by Finance Manager
  • Assist Payables administrator with invoices, check processing, and filing of invoices
  • Provide backup for Payables administrator when out of office
  • Support Accounts Receivable administration team as required
  • Print and mail Customer statements
  • Assist Finance Manager with special projects as needed
  • Other job-related duties and responsibilities as assigned

Other:   (up to 10%)

  • Participate in staff, department, and educational (Exchange Time) meetings
  • Understand our producer partners and trading policies
  • Understand and participate effectively in our worker-owner cooperative model
