About our Cooperative Development Program
Center for Family Life (CFL) is a neighborhood-based family and social services organization with deep roots in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. The mission of CFL is to promote positive outcomes for children and adults through the provision of a comprehensive range of social services.
CFL’s Cooperative Development Program (CDP) is a nationally recognized leader in the development of cooperative businesses in immigrant, low-income communities. Worker cooperatives are wholly worker-owned and democratically-run. Since 2006, we have incubated and provided tailored technical assistance and training to 21 cooperatives representing 540 worker-owners, and trained 50+ community-based organizations on cooperative development.
Position Overview:
The Assistant Director for the Cooperative Development Program plays a key role in supporting the Director to achieve the program’s strategic objectives. This position involves overseeing daily operations, coordinating initiatives, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and policies to ensure the success and growth of cooperative businesses. Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate with the Director to develop, implement, and evaluate program strategies and goals, ensuring alignment with the program’s mission and long-term objectives.
Prepare and submit regular reports to the Director, providing insights into program performance, progress on initiatives, and opportunities for improvement.
Assist in writing and submitting grant proposals and reports, ensuring alignment with funders’ requirements and the program’s goals.
Oversee and coordinate the daily operations of the back-office services provided to cooperative businesses, ensuring efficiency and high-quality support.
Supervise the customer service representative team, ensuring proficiency in software systems and service policies. Monitor their response to inquiries, order processing, and complaint resolution. Provide guidance and conduct regular performance reviews to maintain high customer satisfaction.
Assist with staffing responsibilities, including recruitment, training, performance evaluation, and professional development. Directly supervise two customer service representatives and ensure their success in daily operations.
Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with clients, stakeholders, management, funders, and community partners to ensure program success and strengthen organizational partnerships.
Lead and manage various projects within the program, including cooperative development, software implementation, and training initiatives. Define project objectives, create action plans, track progress, and manage stakeholders to ensure timely completion.
Support cooperative members in conducting democratic meetings, facilitating discussions, decision-making, and follow-up on action items. Ensure meetings are productive and that decisions are documented and implemented.
Design and deliver training programs for adult learners on topics relevant to cooperative business management, such as governance, conflict resolution, meeting facilitation, and business operations.
Qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree in business administration, social work, nonprofit management, or a related field. A master’s degree or relevant professional certification is a plus.
A minimum of 5 years in a leadership role within a nonprofit organization, with experience in program management, business development, or cooperative business models.
Bilingual in Spanish is required
Exceptional leadership and organizational skills, coupled with strong problem-solving abilities and a collaborative approach.
Proficiency in project management, including planning, execution, and tracking of program-related projects.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while managing multiple priorities effectively.
