Member Spotlight: Design Action Collective

Today we’re uplifting the exciting work of Design Action Collective, a worker-owned and managed cooperative and union shop which provides professional graphic design and web development services to a diverse group of social justice activists and organizers. Design Action Collective is a diverse, multilingual, 11-person shop that is majority people of color, women, and trans folks. Their members are social justice activists and organizers who offer their skills as graphic designers and web developers to progressive movements.

Founded in 2002, Design Action Collective came out of the work of Inkworks Press Collective and has steadily grown since its inception. Design Action Collective works driven by 7 Points of Unity in order to “clarify our political unity and to give direction to our work.” Design Action’s clients include Black Lives Matter, BYP100, and Forward Together among many others.

We were excited to be able to visit with members of Design Action Collective a few times in 2017 while staff members were in Oakland, getting to know some of the nuts and bolts of each member’s work, from project management to web development to design. Thanks to the team for always keeping us in the loop with our latest work, and for repping worker-owners all over the country, including the 2017 Netroots Nation Conference, pictured above.

Check out some of their latest work here and follow them on Facebook and Twitter.
