Our Member Councils and Peer Networks are shaping the future of the worker co-op movement in the U.S. Here are the latest highlights from some of our Councils & Networks:
- Union Co-ops Council – REI consumer co-op’s 2025 Board of Directors election is officially underway, and REI has disqualified the two pro-worker candidates and chosen to offer only their handpicked nominees. The Union Co-op Council is supporting the REI union’s call to reject REI’s corporate candidates. If you’re an REI member, go to votenorei.com for clear instructions on how to vote in the election before May 1st.
Monthly Schedule:- April 9th at 1-2pm ET (every 2nd Wed) | REI solidarity calls (email michael@usworker.coop for meeting link)
- April 16th at 3-4pm ET (every 3rd Wed) | Local labor outreach (email lisryder@gmail.com for meeting link)
- April 30th at 3-4:15pm ET (every last Wed) | Union Co-ops Council general meeting
- The Policy & Advocacy Council is tracking the developing effects of federal orders, both on national resources for the worker co-op community as well as how states and cities are adjusting their support of small businesses. Among the primary focuses for our collective advocacy are advocating for WORK Act appropriation and preserving cooperative tax treatment, which is up for re-authorization this year. Additionally, the council is collating resources promoting the International Year of the Cooperative in cities and states across the country, and brainstorming on a plan to create a Co-op Cities designation as a marketing tool to spur cooperative support. Join our next meeting on April 3 to hear about state advocacy initiatives and the latest government relations news, as well as how you can plug in as an advocate.
- The Immigrant Co-ops Council (MIC) is creating opportunities for USFWC members to share information, educate themselves and their communities about their rights, and to show up for each other in solidarity during an especially difficult time. We are actively seeking to get new cooperatives involved in the Council and connect them to the channels where they can request resources and offer support. Join our next meeting on May 15th as we build this powerful network of immigrant-led worker cooperatives. In addition to information and organizing, MIC members saw a need for collective healing, and have begun hosting gatherings where participants are invited to engage in restorative activities and conversations designed to support their physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.
