It is time again for a hearing on worker cooperatives in Massachusetts! As we have shared before, the Coalition for Worker Ownership and Power (COWOP) has been working on policies to expand worker ownership for an equitable economic recovery for the last few years.
This year, several bills were submitted with members of the MA State House and Senate in support of worker cooperatives, the result of many months of advocacy from the MA co-op community, including many of you. As the Policy Director, I have been privileged to work with the folks in MA to advise on and support this work.
Tomorrow, June 27, 2021, the MA Joint Committee on Labor and Workforce Development will be holding a hearing including H.2021 and H.2059 While unfortunately the window to provide testimony at the hearing has passed, we invite the worker co-op community to tune in to the hearing, as well as submit testimony in support of H.2021 and H.2059.

This is a public hearing that will be held virtually. Written testimony can be submitted via this form. If you would like to submit testimony and need talking points, please email policy@usworker.coop and we’ll be happy to provide those to you. Please visit the MA Legislature homepage for viewing information on Tuesday. Last time around there unfortunately was not a video stream available (in English only) but we hope that there will be this month.

We also invite you to join the USFWC’s Policy and Advocacy Council, which typically meets twice monthly. You may register for the next meeting on August 19th here.
