During a town hall on February 21, Congressman Ro Khanna championed worker cooperatives and his federal bill that on worker cooperatives. This bill, which the USFWC staff as well as its members and national partners have been advising on, is anticipated to be introduced this spring. Though he does not explicitly name the business, Rep. Khanna recognized USFWC member A Slice of New York and member-owner Kirk Vartan as a success story in cooperative small business.
“At a time of extraordinary economic inequality, the worker cooperative model — which means everyone has an ownership stake — is something that I think can reduce income disparity, and lead to more successful businesses.”
“…Worker cooperatives can be part of the solution in building the working class and the middle class in this country.”
