In 2020, the USFWC’s Policy and Advocacy Council has grown with the increasing policy and advocacy work that is happening across the country. The council will now host two meetings per month:
- an updates meeting in the first Thursday of each month, open to members and non-members, in which we will share updates, strategies, and best practices from worker co-op and solidarity movements
- a strategy meeting for USFWC members only, where we will focus on brainstorming and developing strategic initiatives, advocacy campaigns, and policy positions.
At our first strategy meeting, the council finalized the differences between these two meetings, discussed the major discussions that we would like to tackle throughout 2020, and worked on our next public webinar, which will be geared toward providing baseline information about worker co-ops for the Small Business Development Center and Small Business Administration audience. The webinar will highlight progress at various levels of government since the passing of the Main Street Employee Ownership Act, and will review resources for SBDCs and the SBA may access as they grow in support of worker cooperatives and democratic business.
