International Year of the Co-op Book Club

To celebrate the International Year of the Co-op, the COWOP Coalition and friends are reading selected chapters of The Routledge Handbook of Cooperative Economics and Management, edited by Jerome Nikolai Warren, Lucio Biggiero, Jamin Hübner, and Kemi Ogunyemi with chapters authored by cooperative practitioners and scholars from across the globe. The USFWC encourages participation in the book club and to join in the learning community.

The book is now available in PDF form for free at this site.

Prior to each discussion session, book club participants are asked to read and reflect on the chapter. If they wish, before and during the session, they may write some reflections on the following discussion prompts in shared notes also provided in the calendar invitation for each session:

  • What did you love in this chapter? Why? What moves and inspires you?
  • What don’t you agree with/what do you think might be missing?
  • What questions do you have for the authors?
  • How does this relate to your work? How can you use this content to improve your work for cooperative development?
  • Any other comments?

For each session Dr. Warren, one of the handbook editors, will ask a chapter author to give a 5m roundup on the chapter. All participants will then have a chance to discuss their thoughts on the chapter. At the start of each session we will ask for permission to record so that we might share with interested parties that are not able to participate. We hope to co-create and share out a discussion highlight paragraph after each session.

All sessions will take place virtually.

The session list is below. If you know people who might like to join the group, they can email sarah.a@economicdemocracy.us or fill this form
