Work Week

REGISTER FOR VOLUNTEER WORK WEEK

The Volunteer Work Week brings together conference attendees and other experienced worker cooperators to share our expertise and lend a hand to startup cooperative projects. Volunteers will work closely with local cooperators and those interested in cooperation to provide technical assistance to developing and ongoing projects, as well as some hammer-and-nails sweat investment in startup projects.

At our 2008 conference in New Orleans, we sponsored aWorker Cooperative Volunteer Work Week. Cooperators from around the country volunteered both their sweat and their expertise to help build startup cooperative projects in New Orleans. The Work Week was so popular that we decided to implement it at every conference. It's a chance to share knowledge and experience in service of real grassroots cooperative development, and it's also a chance to get to know each other better by working together.

This year volunteers will have the chance to volunteer with startup Bay Area projects. We are still in the process of putting together the Work Week projects, and we hope to have them selected by late June 2010.

What's the work?
We are in the process of finding and selecting projects. We aim to have a good mix of projects, so we have two kinds of work available:
Brawn Work
- Helping build, clean, and get dirty with projects from building to community gardening. Basic carpentry and building, hauling debris, gardening, etc.
Brain Work - Helping prospective worker co-op projects get started or move further along. Providing technical assistance and experienced advice in the areas of: business planning, finances, democratic governance and management, personnel/meetings, cooperative law, etc.

Want to volunteer?
Great! If you're interested in being a volunteer, please register online here.

Participation is free for Work Week volunteers,  and we will provide transportation around the Bay Area. You will be responsible for your housing and meals. If you are staying at the conference site, you should select housing for the nights of the Work Week. You can choose to come to part or all of the work week.
